Life Through the Eyes of the Pencil

What would it look like to live as pencil? What would we as a society learn from it? In this article, Brenner Drake interviews 2Hb, the pencil. In it we find the short but fascinating life of an old fashioned pencil.

DRAKE- “Hi! My name is Brenner Drake! Here with me I have 2Hb, the pencil. And in this issue he is going to be telling us about the personal life of a pencil.”

2HB- “Hello! My name is Harold Boss the 2nd. Or just 2Hb, for short. And, as you can see, I am a pencil. How I got here I have no idea. At first, it was dark and cold, and then, after what felt like eternity, light appeared. And here I am, in the middle of what seems to be a room full of children, sitting on top of a platform on 4 legs. It is so- Wait. What is this? AHHHHHH! One of the children has grabbed on to me! LET GO! Wait, what’s that? What are you- AHHHHHH THE PAINNNNNN! Why are Raking me across this surface?! You are shredding my bottom- AHHHHHHHH STOOOOPPPP! Oh lord help me! Oh the excruciating pain! Wait... Yes! Finally it has stopped! Haha! Curse you children! Oh my poor bottom, it literally snapped off my body. This is so- What is that? It’s like a metal machine with a little… Why are you putting me in this? Wait what are you- AHHHHHHHHHHH! What in the… Oh this is- STOPPPPPP! Why are you torturing me like this?! I- Ooooo. My bottom is back! Oh the wonderful little human you are! I am so sorry for… Oh! You are setting me down? Oh you saved me! Wait! I’m rolling! I’m rolling! Somebody HEELLLLPP! I’m rolling off the table! Oh no! Here it comes! AHHHHHHHH! Ouch!... Woah! This is so soft and… What is that? No. Please turn away! No no NOOOO!... OOooof!... Oh my that hurt!”

DRAKE- “Im sorry but could you please describe what you just witnessed?”

2HB- “Oh I’m sorry! I forgot you were here! Well, I kind of just fell off the table and got stepped on by a- NO! Ugggg. Sorry, here comes another one. OOooof!... Oh my goodness! Sorry. The thing is that a child just stepped on me, twice, actually. Oh I do hope someone picks me up… Actually, here comes someone now! Yeeeeessssss! Thank you! Now I… OW! Why are you putting so much pressure on me? Ohhhh the strain! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!

DRAKE- “Ummmm ok? Ehhhheeeemmm… And there you have it folks, the story of life through the pencil’s eyes. As a society, we learn that a pencil’s life is short and not necessarily efficient. One reason why the world should switch over to mechanical pencils. They are fast, efficient, and stay around for a long time. Thank you for being with us. Goodnight.
